The city streets were teeming with life today. People all rushing about to get form one side of the road to the next so that they might catch a sale on the other side of some favorite desert or piece of clothing. The weather was holding up this day, the sun showing brightly the fantastic colors of the local shops as well, the ladies dresses and accessories they were wearing. A young girl, not older than 21 or 22 at most walked slowly, her dark blue orbs scanning the street for prizes, just the same as any other lady her age and older. She did not however seem to be carrying any boxes or bags but if one looked close enough, they would find a towering man walking behind her, his hands not full but he was varying a few bags that seemed to be filled with something. This man towered over the small girl as well as most the people along the street, at his side he carried a huge broad sword and on his face a look of protection as he eyes onlookers watching the pair walk by.
The girl wore a elegant summer dress of light blue silk and carried a matching parasol which she held almost wistfully over her shoulder as it shaded her porcelain featured from the sun. Her small hands were covered in white gloves and the only other skin offered up for view in that dress she wore was a small bit of cleavage and even that was bordered with snow-white lace that was just barely whiter than the skin it laid next to.
The couple, if that was what you wanted to call them, turned down street after street but the girl, never talking to anyone, or the man that accompanied her, didn’t seem impressed with anything she looked upon, to the distress of the shop workers of course as they all knew money when they saw it walk on by. It wasn’t for another several blocks that her feet came to a stop in front of a small bookstore and her rose colored lips turned up and into a smile. She turned slightly and opened the door where she plucked a book from its resting place on a dusty shelf and ran a small white-gloved finger down its spine. The words written there said ‘Winds and air currents, predictions for the year’.
“Excuse me sir” Her small quiet voice spoke as she turned to gaze at the man behind the counter. “I want this book.” She finished, laying the piece of writing on the counter in front of her.
“That’s quite a bit of reading for such a young pretty girl as yourself.” The man stated, as he looked her over. “Are you sure you wouldn’t rather have one of these?’ His hand motioned to a section where a bunch of young girls were giggling at some sort of romantic novel they were looking over.
The small girl did not smile, her eyes narrowed and she stood even straighter, if that was possible. “Pardon me sir, just sell me this book and I will bid you a good day.” She said a bit tartly, her dark blue eyes flashing with a bit of aggravation at his suggestion.
“Very well Miss, as you wish.” The man shrugged.
After the money had exchanged and the small girl had lef the shop she took a long drawing breath and after giving the proprietor of the book store one last nasty glance, she moved on down the street.
After a bit they came to a small coffee shop out of the way of the hustle and bustle and she took a seat in a shaded area, motioning the monstrosity of a man to sit with her and then opened up her book and started to read. After a few moments. The serving man came by and she ordered her obvious servant a drink and for herself, nothing and returned to the book in her hand.

The sun was shining bright, there were very few light, fluffy clouds in the clear blue sky and there was a very light cool breeze blowing through town carrying cool air from the open sea. It was just as Titus had expected. He walked through the square down from the great white tower above the city library, looking about as people wandered and scurried about their business. It was a nice day to run errands, and that made it a great day to watch the world.
Cultures had come and gone and they would always continue to do so. For as long as Titus had lived, he always studied culture as closely as he could. The only way to keep current was to leave his tower and mingle among the people. Experience was always the vast superior to the retelling of experience through written works and Titus saw no point in sitting and reading books in the tower only to have to take second best by reading about what was happening then, later, so he made a habit of taking part in society.
Past the town square, Titus felt that the walk had given him a certain thirst, as it always did, so he set aim for a place to get a drink. In the interest of experiences, Titus chose a little café where he had never been before. He opened the door with his left hand to enter, as his right hand was holding a large book he was in the middle of reading. ‘Perception Paradox’ was the title, which was covered half way by Titus’ arm. The very point of leaving the tower was of course not to read but to observe the life and times of modern Celesta first hand, but more often than not, Titus felt that as hard as he tried to be a part of the world ever developing world, no one paid him much attention. Experiencing society was hard to do when society wouldn’t have you. Bringing a book always seemed a good back up plan. Since his last outing turned out very much like that, this time the book would take the forefront as he would satisfy himself with watching.
There was a small open table near one corner, So Titus walked over to it and sat down, placing his ten inch thick volume on the table. The serving man was there to him almost immediately, which was nice as Titus did have that thirst to quench from the walk. He asked the serving man’s suggestion for a good tea and ordered it.
While he waited, Titus looked up from his table and saw a small, pale faced young woman sitting at the table in front of him, across from a gigantic man, and smiled as in her hands was the book, ‘Winds and air currents, predictions for the year.’
“It isn’t every day that I see a young lady reading ramblings of an old man talking about the weather.” Titus said as he looked at the fair looking woman ahead of him. As he said that, the serving man returned with his tea, which he took in hand and sipped immediately.

The young girl noticed the man when he walked in, the tinkering of the bell sort of gave it away, though she would have noticed him anyway, she was always knowing where people were and who or sometimes even what was circulating in her presence, a habit she’d picked up on long ago.
The giant of a man sitting across from her looked up from his half daze and eyed the speaker, though said nothing, he looked to the small girl, his dark eyes moving quickly from hers as she became animate.
“And it isn’t every day a young girl gets noticed for doing so without being judged.” The young girl said in reply, her lips turning up slightly as she peered over her books top to eye the one sitting upon his table.
“You seem to have a nice work to read over yourself.” She added as an after thought, her dark blue orbs scanning the tomb and its name all in one glance.
It was the book first her eyes swept, then the drink in his hand, her orbs following his hand to his lips as he took his sip and then settled on his eyes. There was something about his eyes, though they were not old outwardly, they, like hers perhaps told tales beyond knowing and a knowing that not many held. They looked wise, he held himself straight and steady and yet, was a perfectly approachable human, so far as she could tell.
The girl lay her book on her lap, still open but face down to save the page as she tuned the top of her torso slightly and leaned back in her chair, both hands moved and rested on top of her volume and she blinked once, her face showing a polite interest in a conversation with this man.
The giant sitting across from her finished his drink and settled the large container on top of the table and as soon as the clink was heard a waiter came by to pick it up, asking if he would like another.
The girl turned her head slightly and raised a brow at her servant who nodded and she smiled. “Yes he would.” She stated and then returned her attention to the new human.
“Kyrea.” She stated, holding out her hand to the man across from her.

After expecting another day out on the town to be left to reading the pages of the volume he carried with him, which of course he truly was very much interested in, being welcomed to conversation was a wonderfully pleasant surprise. This woman with whom he was speaking was quite obviously not regular; even better. The odd things in life were the truly special ones. They were the things that you had to be lucky to experience, and so too the odd people, the ones you had to be lucky to know.
“Titus” he replied as he took Kyrea’s hand in greeting with a happy smile. “My read is long, but I find it quite interesting to conceive the immeasurable complexities of the world in which we live, or in fact, the curiosities of what exactly that world is.” Titus took another short sip of his tea and then waved a hand in the direction of the book on Kyrea’s lap. “Yours is the speculations of an old man regarding the changes in the weather patterns relative to times past, mostly filled with observations that are completely irrelevant to almost anyone.”
After saying that, Titus leaned forward a little bit and placed his elbows on his knees, keeping the cup of tea in one hand. “When I wrote that book, I somehow imagined sailors reaping advantage from knowing the air currents before they sailed out to sea.” Titus shook his head lightly as he paused at that comment. “What a foolish notion that was in a time when they seem for the most part to be completely preoccupied with drunkenness and sex they can buy. Sailors don’t think and plan like they used to. I guess some people don’t want the help that people can give them.”

Kyrea’s lips turned up even further as the man introduced himself and began to talk. She rather liked his voice, it was no where near scoffing or even critical, until he came to the part about the sailors, of course. However, he was right, the sailors of today were scoundrels for the most part. Certainly there were the few who actually did care, but their voices were seldom heard when the others were behind their locked doors with whatever manner of whore they had chosen for their nights obsession. She nearly giggled at the way he so lightly put this however, the little girl in her showing itself slightly when he talked to her of drinking and consorting with whores.
By this time, her hand had returned to its resting place atop her volume and she had tilted her head slightly a she looked at the Author of the book she now read.
“As I find it necessary to know these thing, fascinating to understand how it is the world around us works, what might tip the scales to make thing move along, or stop altogether. The delicate balance of what is, weather has always fascinated me…” She trailed off for a moment, her eyes sparkling with near excitement. It had been such a long time since she’d even had a decent conversation with a person of Intelligence.
The giant man sat quietly the entire time, happily sipping away at his drink as the two began to talk.
“…And you sir, do yourself an injustice. I have read all of your volumes, every year and so far it would seem, you’ve done a good job at figuring out a complex situation such as these patterns. Of course, at times there are disruptions that will throw it all out of proportion, but then there is that Chaos factor that will always be there, rather the world likes it or not.” She finished giving him a quick wink. “What’s your, if you don’t mind me asking, views on mountains, in relation to the erosive forces of the wind?” she then asked, her eyes still alight with peeked interest.

“A most admirable motive, young lady.” Titus proclaimed almost excitedly at her explanation as to her interest in the weather. He rarely ever got a chance to speak to anyone with such an intellectual perspective on environment. By the time he took his next sip of tea, the cup was emptied and he set it on the edge of the table hoping it would be refilled.
“Any equation becomes simpler when many of the variables are filled in.” Titus explained, reasoning that his relative and in fact, predominant accuracy in predicting the weather was simply due to ample information. “I’ve had an abundance of time to observe the weather throughout my years and I believe that the growing number of precedence lends to better forecast.”
He took a slightly deeper breath then while the serving man did in fact stop by to refill his tea and Tidus pondered the woman’s question. “Do you mean to ask my ideas on the effect of wind on the mountains, or the effects of the mountains on the wind?” he asked after a moment. “Because though the two are tightly related, one does not assume the other.”
Tidus thought quickly and continued to speak. “The erosive forces of the wind tend to shape the mountains over time.” He started, then paused a brief moment to sip the new cup of tea. “That being said though, the mountains more immediately erode the very force of the wind and shape it, to their form. This is why I say the two are tightly related, but source direction of the wind affects this, just as the shape, size, and quantity of mountains affect that. If you’re asking for long term predictions, I would have to say the mountains will turn out taller, sharper, and narrower with wider passages between them, and the winds then will begin to fluctuate less in pace as they earn themselves more direct paths.”
He paused again with a grin as he looked down at the book on Kyrea’s lap once more. “You say you’ve read all my weather volumes.” He started with his cup in hand getting ready to sip. “That’s a lot of material. I wonder if you think so heavily on other matters? I would be quite interested to hear some of your thoughts, and of course, more than happy to share more of mine.”

This was getting good. Kyrea was likely to loose herself in the conversation, forgetting to remind herself that she still had to hold something of a human persona, though she seriously doubted this man would continue to find her the young girl she seemed. He of course, she already knew, by his admission of being the author of the books she held so dear to her, that he was indeed much older than he would appear, older than her as well. Giving her the thought that indeed, he was at the very least, an established Mage. Though by his comment, he was likely to have already known, she wasn’t the girl she appeared to be either. She would just have to be careful, she would hate for him to excuse himself because of who she was, but at the same time, she thought perhaps he wouldn’t do this, he seemed to be perfectly at ease and so, she let herself go a little more.
“I do agree with you at the point of erosion however, have come to the conclusion, not solid of course, as I find it difficult to stand solid on any terms when it come to forces of nature, that the erosion points of the mountains pertaining to this area seem to erode in odd patterns, sometimes doing as you have described, but at others, flattening their tops and making way for the destructive forces of the wind.” She noted in counter to his explanation.
“And yes, either way is what I am asking.” She added at the end, answering his question and then continuing to speak. “However, I have also noticed that in such cases as to where the mass of the mountains flattens and give way to the erosion from top to bottom usually ends up in volcanic activity, would you not agree?” She stated and asked all at once, her eyes moving to watch as his tea was refilled and then back again to look at Titus as she spoke.
“I also find that some animals are keen to what the weather is going to be like on any given day, some, months ahead. Bird watching, I find is most effective in weather watching in particular.” She smiled. “In short, I suppose it would be simply paying attention to the world around ones self and gaining any knowledge from others one can, is the key to proper understanding…” She trailed off and then shook her head slightly. “Though of course, there are those who simply feel that it is a fools notion to even try and understand.” She sighed. “Unfortunately, the eons who don’t wish to understand are those whom push the Chaos factor to a higher limit.”
She paused for a few moments, her head turning slightly to eye her giant companion, her lips turned to a slight smile as she noted him now dozing slightly in his chair. She reached over the table almost too quietly and plucked the large container out of his hand without disturbing him and set it on the table and then returned to Titus again.
“As for thoughts on other things, well indeed, I do have thoughts on a great many ideas, one of which are humans themselves and how they have changed over the years.” She began, taking a bit of a breath before continuing. “I remember a time when young girls, for example would never be caught reading at all. Could you imagine, not being allowed to read? One would think that they would try to at least educate themselves in what they read today, instead of preoccupying themselves with those trash novels they seem to be so found of.” She then stated, remembering the girls in the bookstore. “I was just lucky enough my father wanted his child, male or female to know what was going on in the world around her.” She finished with a smile.

Titus grinned at Kyrea’s finishing comment about the history of literacy and education. “That was long ago.” He said with a smile, “It seems you’re older than you look, young lady, but that wasn’t all that long ago.” He grinned again and winked before taking another sip of tea. Truly, the time when women were not openly allowed to read was long past, several hundred years in fact, but time, he thought, was really a relative matter. “I am certainly glad that your father chose to educate you, for that has now given me the privilege of hearing the thoughts of a wonderfully intellectual woman. Your passion for academia truly encourages and warms my heart.”
“As for the discrepancies in the patterns I described,” Titus added, starting to get excited, “I have come to believe that the winds come not only from the lateral directions of north, east, south, and west, but also from the sky. These winds bare down on the world from above to fill in the vacuums of air created by the winds moving away from the mountains. This would explain what you were saying about the tips of some mountains rounding out rather than sharpening up.” Titus then paused for a couple brief seconds, smiling, since it was a great cause of excitement to him to be able to discuss his geo physical theories with someone else. Even in the tower of knowledge in which he spent most of his time, few were able to follow his more advanced thoughts when ever he did try to express them. This idea in particular was a foreign thought, since the mainstream understanding of the world consisted of a flat plain with the three known continents surrounded by water. There were no known facts about anything more than that, and most of the world was content to leave it at what was known.
“So far, I have not determined any reasons to explain the volcanic activity that arises out of the flattened tops of mountains, but I have observed enough mountains with tips flattened over time which did not result in such a manner to support this being written off as coincidence. That is not to say, however, that I could not be swayed to believe otherwise if new information or theories were to be brought to my attention.”
Titus paused then again, trying to remember if he was missing any of her questions. His lips turned up and he got another excited look. “I have no evidence to support this,” he started, grinning widely, “But I believe that the animals, especially birds, have what you could call a sixth sense. The manner in which they conduct themselves in relation to the impending weather, as well as the migratory senses of a bird, leads me to believe that they must know things, sense things that we human creatures don’t. I have thought on how it is they could know these things, and the idea I have come up with is that they feel these things from the earth.” He chuckled then and shook his head. “This seems an odd idea but if a magnet can be moved by the earth, then why not animals? If gravity draws us towards the ground, then why could there not be other forces at work from beneath us?”
Titus finished, content in that he had answered all that she asked, and then drew another breath. “What would you say to a walk through the libraries in the white tower?” Titus asked her, truly excited, imagining the conversations he could have with this brilliant young woman.

Kyrea had taken to the park today, her manservant following behind her as always, his huge giant form looming in the background of her every step. He of course was silent, as always, Kyrea didn’t even think he knew how to talk. Of course, silent was fine with her, it was his complete loyalty to her family line that held him his position as well his home in the guest house on her land. All those things put together and the fact that Kyrea actually held a personal and obviously strong love of her manservant, she always treated him with such care and he, she knew, would die for her.
Kyrea, had she had a drink in her hand might have spilt it in her excitement over his ideas and theories of the weather as well the volcanic activities that surrounded them every day. She listened intently to his talk of animals, watched his eyes sparkle with excitement as he began to grow ever more excited about animal theories in correlation with weather patterns. And her mind wrapped around his explanation of her volcanic theories as well, thinking on them as he spoke his words, her vast mind grasping everything and turning it about, putting it ‘through the ringer’ so to speak of her mind.
When he had stated the fact that she was not as young as she let on, she dismissed it almost as quickly as he had. She had already come to the conclusion that to him, it mattered not who she was, and this made her dark blue orbs sparkle with even more enthusiasm than before as it meant she would not have to be so withdrawn and perhaps would at some point even admit what she was, but not at this moment.
The sixth sense he spoke of she knew all too well, is what had brought her to, in the first place, begin her studies of animals; the relation to weather had come later. She being of the undead and a vampire held with herself a certain sixth sense a feeling of things around herself, her heightened hearing and strength, her fast speed and ability to climb walls, they to brought her to the animal kingdom for further studies.
“Yes, I must agree on this sixth sense in animals, I’ve come to realize that they are not all what humans as a whole see, but are far more intelligent, for the most part, then we as…” She paused and chuckled slightly. “Humans, give them credit for.” She commented and then moved on. A large smile spread across her lips “And yes, I know they feel what the earth is speaking to them, how is it a deer, miles away from a forest fire knows when they should flee?” She moved on once more. “Again, it is amazing how the animal kingdom uses the winds to smell out their prey or the hunters that seek them in the shadows. I understand the heightened senses and this sixth sense far better than I understand the migration of birds, their drive for survival perhaps. And again, how is it a salmon finds its way to the place of its birth every season? Does it have something to do with water currents? Oh I have so many questions still, so far to go in my studies.” She told him though with the excitement of an eager child looking for answers and not with frustration.
Then eh suggested a walk through the Grand Libraries of the White Tower, to this, if It was possible Kyrea would have exploded with excitement, it was far beyond anything she could have ever hoped for in her entire existence, anyone outside the order, for that matter. “Well… uh, would I?” She stated, her voice rising excitedly, waking her dozing manservant instantly. The Huge man startled, pushed his chair backwards pulling out his sword and looked around for an attacker. He moved so much faster than one his size should have been able to and in all, it made for quiet a few startled guests at eth café.
“No, oh my, I am so sorry Drannis, I’m fine.” She stated with a soft smile, her blue orbs moving to the man with a truly apologetic and almost loving gaze.
Upon her words, he sheathed his sword and made to sit once again, but Kyrea shook her head. “Don’t bother love, we have just been invited to the White tower.
Drannis smiled back at Kyrea and nodded at her and then to Titus, his lips turning for the first time, to any other than his master, up and into a smile when addressing Titus, though he never spoke a word, he didn’t have to nor would he.

Titus did not ask any questions about the manner in which she spoke of extra senses. Nor did he question the way she separated herself from humanity when she spoke of it. He had of course, formulated his consensus of what she was, but he believed very strongly that a person’s character was what defined them, not their race; something better said as who, not what a person is.
The woman’s giant companion’s sudden waking did startle Titus, but again, he didn’t question, only smiled. He truly was excited to bring Kyrea into the tower. Conventionally, none but the mages were to be privy to its greatness, but the knowledge held in the contents of that tower was wasted on many of it’s dwellers. To show someone who would truly appreciate what that place held within its walls was an opportunity that Titus could not pass up. The purpose of amassing all of the world’s knowledge in one place, after all, was so that a person seeking knowledge, could find it there.
“The only thing I must caution you on,” Titus said as he stood up, absolutely beaming with pride and joy, “Is you will never have the time in your lifetime to read all the volumes which those walls contain.”

Kyrea inclined her head to Titus in reaction to his comment and then with a slightly controlled smile on her excited lips she stood, took her parasol from its resting place as she closed her book and then slipped it into one of the bags her companion took up in his massive hand and then laid a few coins from the small purse tied to her waist, on the table.
“Oh? Is that an further invite to visit you on other occasions then sir?’ She asked in her guise of formality she knew she did not have to use, but enjoyed using all the same.
The smile she gave him at that point was almost playful and the twinkle in her eye was one of not only joy, but great honor as well.
She knew the restrictions on that tower, she knew and that was one of the reasons she was not only extremely excited, but at the same time of her initial excitement was a hint of shock. She knew the honor that had just been offered her was a great one indeed, and suddenly, she felt as small as she looked.
“Shall we then?” She asked.
She was going to enjoy their walk over there too; the company of this brilliant man was more than she had ever hoped to find her in her lifetime, and being a vampire, that time was considerable. She knew now that he had to be the Master of that Tower, no questions there, as no one, not a single other Mage would have dared offer an outsider the opportunity to look upon those volumes.

Titus likewise left a number of coins on his table; enough that it would tip the waiter generously.
He looked up again at Kyrea and nodded with a great big smile. “A mind like yours will always be welcome in that tower at any time that you should like.” He told her before turning to lead the way outside. She would obviously know where the tower was; it was impossible to miss, so once the got outside he would fall back to stride next to her rather than ahead.
“I truly hope to be interrupted from my reading by you in the future.” He said, exiting the building. “Books, though lovely as they are, are no match for the mentally stimulating properties of intelligent conversation. You have a beautiful mind.”

“Thank you.” Kyrea replied as they moved back into the streets. She was in step with him already, her parasol spread open behind her, twirling between her fingers as she happily walked beside the man.
She had a beautiful mind. That was what he thought of her and that was a very pleasurable thought and it made her smile with a certain sort of pride, as this man, she now knew for certain, would not have said those words if he did not mean them. As well, to her, the man she walked side by side with right now was perhaps one of the most influential characters in her life. She had looked up to him from the time she could read.
She blushed slightly and turned her head, giving him a small grin. “And here I was thinking the same of you.” She stated, meaning of course, he had a beautiful mind as well.
Drannis walked behind the pair, a few steps behind so as not to cover them all too much by his hulking shadow, allowing Kyrea, though staying sheltered from its rays, soak in the heat of the sun, the one thing she loved about the daylight, was its warmth and now it would seem, the company she could keep as well. He had a smile on his lips as they moved through the street, Kyrea was happy and so, that meant that he was as well.
“Be careful, I will take you up on that offer, and I shall try not to intrude upon you at too late an hour.” She replied to his further invitation. “I wouldn’t want to seem rude, however I do tend to not sleep much, if at all.” She finished and winked at him.
She knew he knew and that made all the difference to her in the world, she was finally accepted for who she was, and not what by someone other than Drannis.

“I pray that you do.” He replied quite seriously. “I would gladly have someone wake me if it meant that I would be so stimulated as you would make me.” Titus did truly mean that. Conversation, when bright enough, was worth any circumstance. “Knowledge and intelligent thought is by far the most precious thing in the world.”
Titus paid no attention at the time to any of the countless people that flocked through the square and the streets. There was one person in that moment that was worth his attention more than all the others. That one person was genuinely interested in knowledge, and for that, she had his utmost respect and admiration. “After all, what are we if indeed we do not think?” he asked her, explaining his lust for her company with a philosophical question.

The day filled her with warmth but nothing save Titus could have filled her with more passion. She was a girl who had, during her entire existence, never had such an opportunity to spend time with another so totally lustful of knowledge as she.
As they walked on, ‘discussing the weather’, the world seemed to melt away from her, the tensions at trying to hide herself from him was gone and she found that in their conversations she was able to laugh and smile freely, to act and speak of what she loved and have someone understand, not just somewhat understand but truly so, was near intoxicating. This day quite literally might have become the best day of her entire life and one that certainly would never be match by another, though she knew there would be many more incredible day and nights to come, this one, would never be beaten.
“So, have you any questions I may be able to answer for you, any knowledge of my world that you may wonder about but not know?” She asked, wanting and willing to tell him everything.
