The attack was sudden and without warning, so silent were her attackers that she hadn’t even realized she’d been captured until she felt the icy fingers shove something in her mouth and though she tried to fight, she couldn’t move. There were more than one, and in the darkness so total she couldn’t see them either, that was when she realized she’d had a sack drawn up over her head. She was lifted and thrown over the shoulder of someone and for a moment, felt as though she was flying through the air on that shoulder, only to come to a jolting stop and then thrown into what she could tell to be a carriage. She heard the snap of reigns and the carriage lurched forward flinging her body, hands bound, mouth gagged with the sack over her head, back against the seat. She struggled against her binds and shook her head trying to get the sack from it but it was all a futile effort at most.
“It’s ok, no one wants to hurt you.” She heard his voice, a dark sound cold but somehow almost soothing. She stopped struggling.
She then felt a hand on the back of her head, under the sack its icy fingers running down her locks, she was being petted like an animal, the soft strokes were almost loving in a manner, had not the hand been so cold. “It won’t be long now, no worries it’s ok.” The same dark cool voice rang in her ear, making her calm, though she still shivered inside.
After some time, the jutting and rocking carriage came to a stop, where she didn’t know, but she was now being tugged along by her hands to get down from the carriage. She stumbled down the stair and was caught, by a pair of cold hands and could imagine a soft smile that might have been her savior from what could have been a nasty fall. “Careful, you still have a long way to go and we wouldn’t want you to harm yourself.” The soothing, icy voice sung in her ears.
She was lead over rough ground, her bare feet feeling the sting of the cold as well the pokes of sharp, dry grass as she was led forward. They walked for what seemed a few blocks when she was stopped and listened. It was the sound of an iron gate being opened up, the grating of it was like it hadn’t been oiled in years and she also realized it dragged itself over stone. Tugged forward she moved along silently and heard the clang of the iron door behind her and it somehow didn’t sound as safe as the voice wanted her to feel.
“A few steps here, down my dear.” Came his voice again, that voice, she had never heard it before but somehow it seemed so familiar.
He pulled her down the stairs, guiding her gently to ensure she was able to traverse them without falling, she counted twenty-six steps to the cold stone floor beneath. Her bare feet by now were so frozen, and it was no relief to be indoors and she shivered against eh cold. Having been pulled from her warm blankets and then taken on this nighttime journey for what purpose, she had no clue, but that voice kept on reassuring her, kept moving her onward and she struggled not at all.
She was moved along the stone corridor, or what she pictured in her mind to be as such, taking many twists and turned, moving through wooden doors that were each opened and then shut behind them as they went. Turing right and then left, then right again until she could not tell any longer what direction they had been moving in. Finally, after what felt like hours they came to a stop and she was made to sit on a hard backed chair.
The bag over her head was lifted and she looked around the room and paled. All around her in the torch lit room were faces of the palest she’d seen in her life. Iridescent blue orbs or green, even some showing the fiery light within, casting their way to her in oranges to as deep as blood red. The girl knew at once, she was in a vampire’s lair….
A male stepped out from the shadows, his long dark locks of raven black hair were straight and even had a glimmer about it, as if he definitely kept care to keep it healthy. His eyes were like icy blue crystals and his sharp edges about his face made him about the most evil thing one could have imagined. He wore all black, mostly consisting of leather and on his fingertips were what looked to be sharp razors of silver, donned for either personal decoration or for another reason all together unknown to any but himself, but more than likely, they were not as deadly as the long canines he did not pretend to hide.
“Welcome to my home girl.” His voice came to her ears. It was nothing of the soothing sound the other voice had, had. “Take that gag off her mouth, no one could hear her scram down here, no one who’d care at any rate.” The vampire snapped at another who swiftly made his way to the girl’s side and pulled the knotted ball from her mouth and stepped back.
“Oh, I am sure you want to scream, to try and find help, but I assure you, there is none down here.” The vampire continued to talk to the girl now.
It was several moments before the girl found the courage to speak and when she did, her voice was but a whisper and shaken to the very core. “Wh..what am I here f, for?” She managed to ask.
“A game my little mouse.” The vampire replied with his lips turning up into a sneer. “You are in the center of my labyrinth beneath the city, If you can escape, you will go free, but if I catch you…” He left it hanging and laughed, if that’s what you wanted to call something that sent chills down ones spine and stabbed shards of ice through ones body.
“Untie her and set her moving, the sooner this is over, the sooner I feed.” He growled as the girl was set free from her binds and pulled to her feet. “Run little mouse, run away.” He growled at the girl and stepped forward menacingly.
She jumped and though hadn’t a clue which direction to go, bolted from the room with icy laughter following her from all around.
Drazen would allow her a head start, he would allow the little thing the opportunity to get a good ten minutes into the labyrinth before taking up chase, as it was after all, only fair.
The girl ran, her bare feet slamming on the hard cement floor, twisting and turning down one way then the next, trying doors that were locked and managing to enter other ones that only led to more twisting and turning corridors. It wasn’t until she could hear the whisper of his voice behind her though, that she knew this would end in her death, no matter how hard she tried, but she still tried, had to, and soon she found her way through a mess of corridors that began a steep upwards climb and her heart raced faster, and she could even see the end, was this the iron door? It was, and with an extra burst of speed she ran, she saw the steps, counted them as she reached them and her hand had just made contact with the knob when she was pulled back by a pair of icy hands and slammed against the wall and in a matter of minutes, would know, nothing ever again.
Drazen let the limp, dead body fall to the floor and whipped his mouth off on a torn piece of her sleeping gown. Before he turned away he looked down at eth fallen prey and smiled but said not a word until he turned to a pair of sunken green orbs peering out from the darkness.
“Throw it to the wolves, they will enjoy a free meal.” The vampire spoke in a satisfied tone and walked back down into the tunnels, disappearing around a corner.
