Sky pealed her orange in two near perfect strips of skin, laying them next to the bowel and then separated the fruit in the middle, tearing a piece out from one of the halves and popping it into her mouth. After she had finished this first piece, she looked at Nereis and smiled.
“Yes, it is sad and quite ironic to he destroyed by that which has been granted you, perhaps the only difference from being killed by a blade and being killed by, let’s say fire is the total destruction that could occur.” She shook her head. “I have seen some truly horrible ways a human can die in my time, but I do not think we wish to discuss that.” She told him and then moved along.
The stairs continued to carry them downward in their usual spiral through the massive library. As they moved along, Sky thought about his last question and though it was the most fresh in their mind, decided first to go on with how it felt to be a Mage instead, this being his first question.
“What it feels to be a Mage...” She paused and then thought again. “That is difficult and I do not speak for all Mages, as I am certain it is different for each of us as an individual.” She then stated. “What I feel is extraordinary power.” She told him honestly. “As it is extraordinary power that one gains when manipulating any elemental force I would assume.” She went on to explain. “At first it almost seems all overwhelming, until one gets to the point of realization that they can manipulate and control it, of course.” She explained further, a pause then to ponder further what it was she felt. “Of course, a sense of great responsibility as well, or that is what I felt, still feel.” She moved ahead. “Responsibility to not only ones own self, but to the world about me as well. I control the great powers of Lightning and that my friend, is not a small responsibility…” She smiled slightly. “And I must admit, I even slip at times as it is so easy to play, oh so very easy to play with such power and its many forms, as not all are destructive, but can be used to amuse ones self in a manner not perhaps so wholesome and caring.” She chuckled slightly. “I of course would never do anything to harm another unless in battle perhaps, but to simply make them jump when I am bothered, now there is something to see.” The Mage grinned even further at this as a few tendrils of electric fingers gathered inside her dark orbs for a short moment before she sighed and let them subside.
She was quiet then for a small moment as they moved down the stairs, consuming the orange as they walked until it was gone from her hand before she continued.
“Every Mage is open to two kinds of magic, the second usually manifests itself at the same moment as the first but is pushed back due to the focus of the main Elemental force that the Mage has to contend with thus creating the second to be just that, a secondary means to control something even more select than the first and never as strong as the elemental, though can be just as effective if used right.” She explained to him, hoping she wasn’t moving too fast for him to comprehend what she was telling him. “Take me for example my secondary is growth, I can make anything grow, though not from nothing, I would need a seed of something like an apple tree, or a branch even and I could make that seed or branch grow into a fully loaded tree ripe with fruit in mid winter if necessary. This comes in handy on long trips, of course.” She explained before turning toward her company as they stepped onto the tenth floor landing.
