A teenage girl was slowly making her way through the streets. Her eyes were deep brown and caculating. She stepped sideways to avoid hitting a couple of little children running and shreiking happily. The gilr narrowed her eyes, then turned her gaze back to the shops.
Some of the shops were high-quality and expensive-looking, others were just normal knick-knack shops you see in every city.
The girl was dressed casually, loose denim jeans, hot pink tee shirt mostely covered by a black jacket, and light blue walking shoes. Her thick hair was partially covering her shoulders. Little would most people know, this girl was carrying extremly sharp knives on her bodice, covered and therefore invisable byecause of her clothes.
She entered a small shop and began walking along the shelves. There were glass figurines all over the place, and she was gently touching them with her fingertips, barely making a whisper as she did so. She paused to look at a small figurine of a beautiful woman. The piece was small, small enough to be put in a small pocket and not be noticed.
"You`ve got to see how much security is around her." The girl whispered to herself, then she picked up the figuine as if she was examining it. Within seconds it disappeared.
The girl meandered through the rest of the shop before leaving. "Father would be proud." She whsipered. She had been sent into this area by the people her deadly parents worked for, and so far, she was doing excellent. Mabey this was partially because no one knew her.

Surreal's cloak felt too hot in the afternoon sun. It was sweltering at noon, but by three o'clock it was still hot enough to fry a chicken on the sidewalk. She had tied her brown hair into a bun in an attempt to keep its heavy sweat-inducing mass off her shoulders, but bits and pieces still managed to become weighed down. They clung to the sweat on her neck in desperation. Why oh why did she have to run out of Brandy last night? Couldn't she have run out three days ago when it was nice and chilly? Stupid weather and its finicky ways.
As she trudged to the liquor store, she passed by a figurine shop, stopped, and backed up to the window. Her onyx eyes stared hungrily at a figurine of a raven. Rave would love it. With a glance towards the sky she saw the dead bird hiding above her. Most people screamed when they saw a raven missing half its skull, so he tended to avoid the crowd. She pointed at the piece in the shop and he crooked his head at her. It was a simple gesture, but it showed his disinterest. Surreal sighed. She'd have to buy him some jewel for his birthday after all. Probably a ruby. Probably.
Surreal turned to go, but saw a flash of hot pink exiting the store. She glanced back and saw a girl leaving the store without anything in hand. If she had gone in, she would have purchased half the place. This girl had the willpower of a saint.
"You have the willpower of a saint," Surreal told the girl with a grin. "I'm drooling over these pieces, and I'm standing outside. God forbid I set one foot in that door."

Stacey turned arouns swiftly and her hand instinctively twitched toward her waist. When she saw it was just an ordinary-looking woman, she smiled. "Thank you, ma`am, but I was just looking for a gift for my grandmother. I didn`t see anything to interest her here." She lied smootly.
She adjusted her heavy-looking bag that was over her shoulder and shifted her weight, sending the impression that she was been standing or walking a lot and had tired feet.

Surreal's eyes were drawn to the bag. Goodness, that girl was small to be carrying such a heavy bag. She was also possibly the sweetest girl Surreal had ever met. What child ever gets presents for their granny's birthday? This one was special, that was for sure. Despite the sweltering heat and the agony it produced for Surreal, she felt like she should help.
"Hey, I know you're probably going to think I'm a thief or something, but I'm totally not. Do you need help with your bag? Gosh, it must way a ton, and you are positively tiny." Surreal's hands met her hips as she leaned on one foot. "I know I look small too, but I've got a good set of muscles on me." She tossed the girl a wink for good measure. "I've just got to go buy some brandy for my bar, but then I can give you a hand. Just as long as you don't live, like, miles away. I'm sorry, but my goodwill does not extend to walking miles in this heat from hell."

Stacey smiled. "Thank you," She replied polietely. "But I can assure you I`m not nearly as fragile as I look." That was true, too; she had strong muscles, but they were`t that obvious, especially since she was wearing a jacket and long pants.
"My bag isn`t really that heavy, it just has a spare set of clothes from my friend`s house." She said, her smile turning more and more like one of an immature teenager.
Her bag was really filled with clothes, though definatly not from her frind`s house.

"Well aren't you a doll?" Surreal grinned at the girl. "Presents for granny, picking up spare clothes, probably for an orphan next door. How's about you come with me to get the brandy, then we mosey on back to The Odysey and celebrate what a good girl you've been raised to be. You're old enough to drink right?"
Surreal didn't wait for an answer, instead beginning the long walk to Allan, her favorite alcohol supplier. He was fair with his prices and generous with his alcohol, a man after her own heart.

Stacey wrinkled her eyebrows, slightly confused, but started after the person anyway. "Yea." She answered softly.
"Would you mind telling me your name?" She asked as polietely as she could, not wanting to seem rude, which she had a reputation for being.
"I mean, I think I would like to tell me grandma about you." She added as an afterthought.

Surreal grinned over her shoulder at the girl. No one could resist alcohol, young or old, male or female. In fact, so few people resisted alcohol that Surreal always recognized patrons as she walked along the road. They were sweaty and red-faced in the heat, but whenever they saw her, a smile as brilliant as the sun erupted over their faces.
"Miss Surreal," they nodded as they passed. "I'll be seeing you later."
Surreal laughed every time and gave a shy wave. The grave never feared company. Everyone ended up buried beneath the dirt, and everyone ended up drunk in Surreal's tavern. Any which way one looked at it, Surreal would greet her patrons again.
That the girl followed gave Surreal great joy. Perhaps she had another conquest in the young lady.
"I am Surreal SaDiablo," she threw over her shoulder. "I own The Odysey, where you, my dear, are always more than welcome. And what might your name be?"

Stacey quickened her pace slightly to walk beside Surreal. "Stacey Black." She answered with a small smile.
She watched as people spoke to Surreal, slightly mesmorized. "So, is the Odysey a famous spot?" She asked, trying to start a conversation. She had already figured out that the Odysey must be a bar, since they were headed for alcohol.
She had to pause to let a elderly woman pass, then continued. "Is it usually a busy place?" She added.

Nereis walked through the busy marketplace with his horse beside him. The heat was punding him on his head and chest, as he still had his armour on him. "Damned heat... incredible..." he said in his mind... " I never believed someone would be so stupid as to make a city in a place that gets so hot... Damn heat!.... And damned be these clothes! I feel like i'm melting with them on me... This kilt was great in the frozen north but here it's just a great bed for the flies... Damn Damn this place!... And I can't just stop in the midlle of this croud and take it off!... I just got here, I can't become the marketplace clown... Ah, even Vasar is feeling the heat, and I placed my weapons on him." "Let me ease your back my friend!" He said with a loud voice to the horse as he took the sword off his back. The horse gave a small sigh of relief which Nereis took as a "Thank you!" "Hehe I know it is hard my friend" he continued with a loud voice, "but I hear that in this place we will find the greatest library in the land, maybe there we will find what we are looking for, and then we will go back to our wonderfull frozen grass, and never leave again!" Looking around he noticed that the people where looking strangely at him... they don't see a man talking to his horse every day after all. Nereis lowered his head and quickened his pace. "I will faint soon if I don't find a place to rest" he said again in his mind... why can't I just find a nice bar or tavern... Oh yes... With a nice cold beer and some decent tabaco, I will be fine again" He walked to the first trader he saw, a fat old man who was selling onions. Nereis was sweating heavily and his pace was turning to a small zig-zag. He asked the man with a dry voice: "Do you know where I could find a frozen grass?" The trader looked at him with a very confused face, realizing his blunder Nereis shook his head and mumbled: "A bar, a bar.. I mean a bar!" The man laughed with a heavy voice then said: "Ya are't from these parts are ya? He he , this heat will kill ya lad! But you may be in a litlle bit of luck ya! There to your left you see thy woman with thy blue lips ya? She runs a nice bar close to here, yaaaa! Go talk to her! but first some onions for the road ya?" Nereis smiled and bought some onions as thanks then he started moving fast after the lady who seemed to be walking wtih her daughter through the busy market. "what a big bag her daughter has..." he thought, Then he started yelling: "Excuse me miss! Excuse me!"

"Nice to meet you Stacey," Surreal grinned over her shoulder even as she held her cloak from her body for more air. God, the heat was killing her. "My bar does tend to stay quite busy, usually with the riff-raff from town. You don't need to worry, I keep them in check." She gave a wink with the last statement. She knew she didn't look that no-nonsense, but the last werewolf who caused trouble in her pub was thrown out by bouncers with mysteriously massive cloaks on, and amazingly bony fingers.
They were turning the corner to Allan's when a man behind her yelled for her attention. Surreal turned slowly, allowing herself to scout the situation. The markets weren't exactly safe, and this man could be part of a ploy to steal her money.
"Yes, sir, what can I help you with?" Where she had been warm and friendly with the girl, Surreal's voice was now chilled.

Nereis walked quiclkly and reached the mysterious lady, but only when he was in front of her did he realise the morbid yet interesting appearence of the bartender. Her cold answer only added to the confusion as he had hoped for a wormer greeting.
"Ahm, yes... sorry to bother you miss"-with a trembling voice which becomes stronger as he progreses-"But that nice man over there told me I should talk to you if I want to find a very nice bar which I understand you run" he ends his statement with a small innocent grin.
Behind him Vasar shook his head violently, Nereis knew this ment the animal was frightened of something. "Hey what's the matter boy?" He sayd out loud while patting him on the back, "Don't worry, she seemes nice to me!..." Realising he had said that out loud again he turned slightly red then stated boldly to the ladyes in order to cover his small shame:"I can pay well don't worry, I just really have to get out of this sun, as you can see it is not doing me any good."

Surreal smiled at the man before her. He had said she seemed nice! Even with her unholy countenance, he thought she seemed nice. It made her response overly enthusiastic.
"I sure do own The Odysey, and you are always welcome, friend. I'm picking up some brandy right now, but if you'll wait, my young friend here and I are going back to have a drink. You can join us, if you'd like."
With that, Surreal entered Allan's shop. He had her brandy ready for her on the counter. He smiled at her and held out a hand, into which Surreal dropped the exact change for the drinks. He bagged it up, then handed it to her.
"Take care of yeself, Mistress Surreal. Yer too friendly be half."
"I do, Allan, no need to worry."
"A young lass such as yeself owning a tavern all by herself. It's dangerous, it is." Allan's eyes shown with concern. It was the same concern every time Surreal came to buy alcohol.
Surreal hefted the alcohol onto her shoulder, visibly stumbling under the weight. She was so fragile it was laughable, but she had other ways of caring for herself. To Allan, she lied.
"I've a good man, Allan, here to help me," she pointed out her new friend as if she'd known him for ages. "Have not a worry. Be well!"
With that, Surreal left the salesman and returned to her new friends.
"My bar's this way," she murmured. She began the long treck back to the bar, trusting them to follow her.

Nereis was feeling better now, finally he was getting somewhere in this new place. "As soon as I am rested and fresh I will try to reach the library" He thought as he waited for the bartender...
"Take care of yeself, Mistress Surreal. Yer too friendly be half." He overheard from the shop. "Surreal... nice name...better than that last bartender I met in the north.... what was his name? Juica?" he continued in his mind.
He was so caught up in thoughts that he hardly noticed the other young lady that stood beside him, Nereis tried to introduce himself but just then the misterious lady passed in front of him murmuring something about "This way!" She had a large bag upon her back which was obviously heavy.
"Oh great..." Nereis sighed quietly... The last thing he needed was extra weight on his back, but he could already hear his mother in the backframe of his mind: "Help that woman or I will beat you with the broomstick!" He made a few quick paces and reached the lady.
"Allow me!" He said with a smile, and before she could even respond he placed one hand beneath the bottom of the bag and one at the top, doing so he accidently touched Surreal's hand which was slightly colder than his. "How can she be cold in this heat?" a quick thought ran through his mind, but before it was over Nereis had lifted the bag in his hands and placed it on his back.
"That's better!" He said with a stressed voice, he obviously underestimated the weight of the brandy. "Now, if I may... I would like to introduce myself, I am Nereis son of Algokhamlin, from the far north and this is Vasar my loyal companion"he pointed at the horse. He now looked at the two ladyes awayting a reply, hopefully before his back cracked under the bag and the heat...

Stacey turned quickly to see the man and his horse. She followed Surreal silently, watching the man. her eyes darkened slightly and she shifted her small but heavy bag that was still perched on her shoulder. The glass item still in her bag was all but forgotten at the moment as the stayed slightly behing Surreal`s left side.
"Stacey Black." She replied quickly, seeing the man, Nereis, struggle with the bag filled with brandy. "I was just following Surreal to her well-known bar. I just got here myself." She introduced with a very girly smile.
